چکیده
spective haptenic sugars prevented their adsorption by the gelatinous nlatrix or the egg shells, whereas incubation with sugars other than the correct hapten inhibitor did not interfere with binding of the lectins. These last findings lend support to the idea that the described lectin-binding pat tern was not a result of nonspecific adsorption or uptake by the gelatinous matr ix or the egg shell. Trypsin, chymotrypsin, or pronase did not abolish tile fluorescence created both in the gelatinous matr ix and in the egg shells. These results suggest at least two possibilities regarding the nature of the molecules bearing the receptors for these Iectins on the gelatinous matr ix and the egg shells. The sugar residues are included in either a polysaccharide or a glycolipid rather than a glycoprotein, or the peptides of the glycoprotein are inaccessible to the enzymes.

ever, this may merely be a reflection of the extent to which the cuticle has been reabsorbed at the t ime of fixation since the cuticles of all these Lts are part ial ly reabsorbed dur ing moult ing. Also, the cuticle of the L~ of O. phyllobia appears to be structurally more complex than that of A. agrostis since it has a distinct striated basal layer (Fig. 1A, D) which is reabsorbed at a later...
متن کاملActivity and Survival of Orrina phyllobia: Preliminary Investigations on the Effects of Solutes.
The motility and survival of Orrina phyllobia fourth-stage juveniles (J4) were examined in NaCl, sucrose, and synthetic soil solutions. Synthetic soil solutions (SSSs) contained Na, K, Ca(2), Mg(2), Cl, and NO at relative concentrations identical to those in a known agronomic soil. Nematode activity was dependent on solute composition and on water potential. In all solutions, motility ceased at...

This study investigates the effects of dietary lipid sources on the growth and reproductive performance of Nile tilapia over three consecutive spawnings. Fish were reared using three experimental diets, with the goal of replacing dietary fish oil with palm oil. Three experimental diets and a commercial trout diet was used as the control. The effect of dietary lipid on the growth performance, ...

متن کاملThe effects of mate switching tacticon reproductive performance of the severum cichlid, Herosseverus
This study investigated the effects of mate switching on the reproductive performance of the severum cichlid, Herosseverus, by advancing the egg and larval production in hatcheries. Two reproductive tactic treatments of “monogamous pair” and “mate switching” were used for evaluating 4 reproductive traits of egg production, hatching rate, spawning intervals, and starvation tolerance of the larva...
